Big hits of the twentieth century seriesThe big hits of the twentieth century series began in August 2000, and ran through the end of 2001, whenever there was a fifth Thursday morning during the month. The series contained both themed and unthemed programs, but in both versions the idea was to take a look back at some of the most well-known, popular, and prominent works of the 1900s -- the kind of stuff you would hear popping up from time to time on ordinary classical stations. However, by examining clusters of such works without unrelated material from other time-periods intervening between them, the specifically twentieth-century musical context of those works could be represented much more clearly than is usually the case on conventional classical radio... or at least, that's what I was striving for! I decided to suspend the Big Hits series during 2002 while I try to get a new series on Northwest composers going in the fifth-Thursday slot. The Big Hits series may return in its original form a little later on, but in the meantime I will try to make sure that a certain amount of "Big Hits"-type content remains interpolated into the overall Prisms mix.
