Harnessings of the Sacred seriesThe Harnessings of the Sacred limited-run series was designed to examine, through musical performance and sonic experimentalia, the myriad ways that discourses about sacredness are intertwined with, and constitutive of, the broader range of human activities; how we treat things as sacred, whether we can readily give this process voice or not; and what "sacredness" might really be, or mean, or both. Thus, the series did not only address various modes of religious expression and organization, but also on forms of "secular sacredness" such as nationalism, cultural and psychological enshrinement, and nefarious uses of the "sacredness function". This limited-run series included some stand-alone installments, and also overlapped with specific installments of other ongoing series. The HotS series ended up being presented in two large chunks. Because events beyond my control forced my absence from Prisms and, ultimately, a two month hiatus, the series was paused after the sixth installment. Only two more installments were intended. However, during the hiatus my plans for completing the HotS series converged with plans for presenting specific installments of other ongoing series, so I extended the "second half" of the series to four programs. A fifth was added when I noticed that all the stuff I'd left out of my plans for the series way back when I first conceived it would make a pretty good "odds and ends" program. These programs were part of the Harnessings of the Sacred series. Note that (in a kind of advance wave of events related to the hiatus) there was no program on 18 July.
