The Prisms missionAs stated on the main page of this website, Prisms is intended to serve as "a review of avant-garde 'classical' music, experimental soundscapes, and other forms of western art music of the twentieth century and beyond". But this merely describes its purview. Within that description, I would emphasize that the central mission I try to keep in mind for Prisms -- one that is very simple in concept, though sometimes difficult to fulfill in practice -- is to play music that is unusual and/or sophisticated enough to differ recognizably from the typical playlists of conventional classical stations, while still leaving points of entry for those who are relatively new to such music. I have a bit more to say about that in my "FAAQ" page. Of course, there are other aspects of the Prisms mission. I occasionally delve into more familiar art music from the twentieth century, or music from other genres; and, of course, I am not without more strictly personal, ego-driven reasons to want to keep the show going. On top of all that, I assume I sometimes color outside the lines I've set for myself, in both my musical choices as well as in my commentary. Nevertheless, I promise to keep trying to bring you the best possible musical experience, within the creative space the lines I've chosen enclose. |
