Program #55, May 31 2001: Unthemed / Big hits of the twentieth century series, part IV.During 2001, whenever there has been a fifth Thursday during the month, Prisms has looked back at some of the most well-known, popular, prominent, and/or accessible (yet still interesting) works of the 1900s -- juxtaposing them against one another in an effort to recreate more of their native musical context than can typically be represented on conventional classical radio. For this program, I chose to play a variety of pieces we often hear only in part -- fine works that are unfortunately bowdlerized for commercial jingles, easy soundtrack creation, and "Heavy Classix"-type albums with alarming regularity. Plus, we're headed for graduation and the summer pops season, and all of these works fit those bills rather nicely. I hope you liked them! I sure did. |
