Program #61, 12 July 2001: Featured composers series, part VI: Works of Arnold Schoenberg, part 1 of 2.

We marked the upcoming 50th anniversary of the death of Arnold Schoenberg (13 July 1951) with a review of his life and major/representative works up to about 1936 -- concentrating on his evolution from a late romantic who picked up where Wagner left off, to a somewhat (though certainly not completely) reluctant revolutionary who gradually found his way to a whole new way of putting music together. Further examination of the fruits of his revolution were left to the next month's presentation of Moses und Aron, as part of the 20th-century Theatre Pieces series.
