Program #73, October 4 2001: Works for percussion.

This program was not intended to be a comprehensive or encyclopedic review of canonical percussion works -- for example, I decided not to play Varèse' Ionisation -- but just a collection of some noteworthy and interesting pieces, some I've wanted to play for a while (e.g. Xenakis' Pléïades, omitted from last spring's all-Xenakis program due to time constraints), some selected to get some new performers and composers into the mix (e.g. Muslimgauze, Zivkovic, Chambers), and others selected to expand the notion of "percussion" a bit (e.g. Einstürzende Neubauten's use of a bridge as a percussion instrument). The mix of all of these was a great deal of fun, another nice tonic in these unsettled times.
